WtE Technology: New lead to the WtE development

Vietnam is considering to step up the production of electricity from waste, contributing to the “ problem” of environmental pollution; saving scarce and to bury garbage… One of the technologies that Vietnam has chosen to develop waste electricity is WtE- Waste to Energy.

WtE is a municipal waste treatment by gasification to create synthetic gas as fuel for generator. The advantage of this method is the use of closed lines, no land fund for landfill and no need to separate upstream waste. When converting waste to synthetic gas, no odor, waste; stable and safe during operation. This technology is developed from the source technologies such as Seraphin, CDW, MBT, CD-08, MBT-GRE.

According to Engineer Nguyen Gia Long – Director of Hyraulic Machinery Company – who has invented and tested this technology successfully for many years, with this technology, the input garbage is chopped onto the conveyor belt. Here, MBT-GRE technology will break down the flow of rapidly – decomposing organic material and water in the waste mixture ( these are biodegradable, polluting odors and insects..) Soft tissue and water are transferred automatically down the biogas pipeline to product methane gas, while the rest of the fiber mixture is dried to a moisture reduction of 20-25%. After pressing the member or bales, into the syngas

This technology is being tested in the factor of mechanical equipment and environment of Hydraulic Company – Machinery ( Dong Van Industrial Zone, Ha Nam). After 1 month trial operation , the plant has cleaned 208 tons of unsorted waste by Ha Nam Urban Environmental Company. Electricity is produced from waste lighting the entire lighting system of Dong Van Industrial park. The Environmental Monitoring Center( Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) has carried out the most advanced equipment test resulting in the quality of syngas from Wte to meet Vietnam standards.

After Ha Nam, WtE technology continues to run trial at Go Cat Waste Disposal Plant ( Tan Binh District, HCMC). The plant was completed and put into operation by the end of April, 2017 has processed about 500 tons of industrial waste, generating 7mW of electricity into the nation grid. The plant is operated by pretreatment system: cutting machine, fuel and pressing equipment, syngas, and 3 Power Generator ( 1 generator using for lighting and 2 :550kVA generators)

Hydraulic Company successfully operated experimental project of solid waste treatment in Ha Nam and HCMC has received the attention of the Government localities throughout the country. If this technology is put into commercial production, it will contribute to reducing environmental pollution and generating more electricity for the country.

Up to this point, technology is continuing to be studied and perfected. The model is also being developed in the provinces and cities nationwide to address the problem of environmental pollution that Vietnam is facing.

Vietnam has 93 million people, nearly 35,00 tons of urban solid waste daily and 34,00 tons of rural solid waste. Successful application of waste treatment to energy will create positive effects for the environment and economic development of the country.
